How to Make a Lego Cupcake Stand

by Party Cupcake Ideas on November 3, 2010

My family loves movies and we had to go out and get the latest Toy Story dvd at the store today. My kids also enjoy building Lego’s and my husband enjoys it every bit as much as they do. My husband and I were discussing how fun a Toy Story cupcake theme would be for a party and we got to thinking. I didn’t want to use a traditional cupcake stand, or even build one out of wood or plastic. What we needed was something colorful and unique. A Lego Cupcake Stand! This cupcake stand was so much fun to put together. In fact, we are building a larger one now that features 3 levels. This Lego cupcake stand is holding 20 mini cupcakes and could hold about 12 regular cupcakes. If needed, we also had enough room for about 20 additional mini cupcakes around the base of the cupcake stand.

In order to make the stands I purchased 2 green Lego base plates and used square and rectangle Lego bricks for the columns. The Toy Story Lego kits used were 7590, 7595 and 30070.

This Lego cupcake stand would also work for cakes too. I think a small 8″ cake could go on the top level and you could utilize the bottom level for cupcakes. If you have a birthday party coming up for a Lego fan, they will love this cupcake stand. I’m keeping this one and have enough Lego supplies to build a few more. I’m going to sell them on Etsy and you can find more info about them here.
