Holiday Cupcakes

Holiday Cupcakes

by Sprinkles on November 26, 2010

With the holidays just around the corner, many of us are thinking about travelling, whether that be international or domestic, doing a road trip, or just getting away to somewhere you can relax and take it easy.  Whatever the occasion, wherever the destination, there is no way better to celebrate your imminent departure, or your friends upcoming trip than with cupcakes.

So in order to do the cupcakes justice they need to be themed appropriately.  That is with planes, trains or automobiles!

Another option is to frost them and top them with something to symbolise the type of trip.  Going overseas to study – do books, to explore – try a map, or to hike why not use a compass or hiking boot.

Wherever they are going I am sure you can come up with something for the perfect sending off celebration.  And baking cupcakes really shows you care!

Are You Organized to Bake Cupcakes?

by Abigail on September 5, 2010

It’s hard to think about but the holidays will be here before we know about. Just a few months and you’ll soon be invited to holiday parties and gatherings. For cupcake lovers we know what that means: making yummy cupcakes! Every cupcake lover wants to be prepared to bake for the holidays.

One of the biggest challenges about baking cupcakes for the holidays is that more people are baking during this time than ever before. Many people who rarely bake – do so during the holiday time. So it can be hard to find ingredients and supplies. This is where being organized becomes so important. It can mean the difference between baking a batch of your favorite peppermint and hot chocolate cupcakes – and running out to the store in the middle of the night hoping they have that one ingredient you think you are missing (that’s actually in the back of the cabinet). Don’t waste time, energy and money this holiday season. Let’s get organized to bake cupcakes!

Begin by thinking about what cupcake supplies you already have. Can you find them in under 10 minutes? If you can’t….its time to work on a better organization system. Whether you have an enormous kitchen or a tiny one, every cupcake baker needs a system that works for them. This can mean getting shelves or clearing a shelf just for your cupcake supplies. It may mean organizing other baking supplies so you can see what else you have. But taking this step is quite helpful – because you won’t need to rebuy what you already have and you’ll find things quickly.

Consider your current and upcoming cupcake needs. Perhaps you know you are bringing cupcakes to your child’s school party this fall. Or you are doing cupcakes or another large event. You’ll need something to carry your cupcakes in so they won’t get squashed or stick together. Keep in mind how many cupcakes you need to make and how you are transporting them. Some cupcakers may also want to buy a cupcake display tier so their cupcakes look pretty.

Remember that holiday baking causes a great demand on popular items – so get there early. Buy dry goods items like cake mix, flour and sugar or candy toppings weeks in advance so you are sure you have the exact items you want for your cupcakes. This will make it far easier to make your cupcakes than repeated visits to the store to get ingredients.

Whoever said that birthdays were sweet was right! And American Greetings is certainly taking that saying to heart, offering a new line of greeting cards called Tasties ™ that have a flavor strip inside. This dissolvable strip complements each card type according to the flavor offered.

Our favorite is the cupcake card (of course!). A yummy cupcake is featured on the outside of the card and it says, “If nothing else, birthdays are a great excuse to eat cake.” The inside says, “lots and lots of cake.” Then the dissolvable strip invites the card recipient to “taste” the vanilla cupcake to make this greeting even sweeter. What a unique card? We think that’s certainly a greeting card people will remember. What could be better than offering the temptation and treat of a great cupcake and your sweet wishes for a Happy Birthday for a loved one?

The Tasties ™ cards are available at grocery stores (where you can also find the ingredients for cupcakes….), drug stores and other locations that sell American Greetings cards. We have a feeling you’ll be on the lookout for these great cards near you!

When it comes to celebrating birthdays, cupcakes are the best! Whether for an child’s or adult’s birthday, the sweet treat of cupcakes says, “Happy Birthday!” like nothing else. We bet you have your favorite birthday cupcakes you like to make for a loved one’s birthday.

A single cupcake is a sweet way to say Happy Birthday, especially to someone who doesn’t like much of a fuss over their birthday. It shows you are doing something special, without going out and getting a mariachi band or parade floats. Cupcakes are always sweet and thoughtful. And who can resist blowing a single candle out to get that great birthday wish we all hope comes true? (I know I can’t!) Someone you love is on a diet? Try making mini cupcakes! It’s a tiny sweet treat that still has all of the celebration with less than half of the calories. That’s a great way to celebrate when someone is watching their waistline – and you still have that deep urge to make them cupcakes.

So spill and share! What Happy Birthday cupcakes have been a big hit at that birthday party? What birthday cupcakes do you love for kids? Or adults? What birthday cupcake tips would you give fellow cupcake lovers?
