Get ready for more cupcake fun and reality TV show antics with TLC’s latest show! DC Cupcakes begins this Friday, July 16th at 10 p.m. EST. It is a six-part series that follows sisters who are also business partners that own Georgetown Cupcake. Georgetown Cupcake is a small cupcakery that according to TLC’s site has become a “sweeping success.”

Sisters and partners Sophie LaMontagne and Katherine Kallinis own Georgetown Cupcake. This series will take us through their days as cupcakery owners. Watching them make pretty and yummy treats for parties, celebrations or even those who walk in craving something sweet. We imagine that owning a cupcakery must be so much fun! It will be great to watch this series and see all that goes on at Georgetown Cupcake.

According to the TLC site, the sisters began baking with their grandmother as toddlers. They first baked a cake for their grandfather’s birthday, a vanilla cake with chocolate frosting! Grandma taught them how to bake the very best way, by letting them imitate what she did in the kitchen. The sisters do not have formal training and credit their grandmother with teaching them about cooking and baking. They opened Georgetown Cupcake together on Valentine’s Day 2008. At the time, the cupcakery was the city’s only cupcakery – and it grew to great popularity. Today they bake more than 5,000 cupcakes daily and send cupcakes across the country.

How exciting to watch the growth and development of a cupcakery in this fun TLC reality show. Especially for cupcake lovers and “foodies” a show like this is truly one-of-a-kind. You can count on DC Cupcakes to give you lots of behind the scenes tips for what it is like to own a cupcakery or even a bakery – and perhaps some cool cupcake baking tips. Reality show fans will likely tune in for the (hopeful) drama and antics these shows are known for.

This weeks ‘news of the week‘ borders on the slightly weird…

Monday 5th July - More cupcake shows on the way according to Monsters and Critics!  This time TLC’s new show is called ‘DC Cupcakes’ and will join their extensive line up of cake shows.  The show commences on the 16th August and endeavors to go behind the scenes on the dramas that happen at the busy family owned Georgetown Cupcake.

Tuesday 6th July - Is there such thing as a Bad Cupcake?  Well according to SF Weekly there is!  Apparently it is the bubblegum cupcake!  So what is the issue? apart from their view that the frosting ratio to cake is wrong.

Well, it seems that his mouth couldn’t quite match the two sensations, apparently “the nose said gum, the mouth cake, and we kept trying to chew the cupcake as if we could blow bubbles with it”. Personally I haven’t tried one, so I cannot weigh in on the debate, can you?

Wednesday 7th July - Probably our most bizarre news post (yes it must have been a slow day for cupcake news), but apparently according to Daily Fill, Justin Beiber’s mom says that her good little cupcake “has expressed his desire to stay pure and honor women”. Will I ever be able to look at a cupcake in the same way?

Thursday 8th July
– Over at Yum Sugar there is a very ‘important’ debate going on, does the cupcake photographed here look lewd and crude? Apparently it is chocolate cake topped with marshmallow and dipped in chocolate.  What do you think?  You can add your comment to their site by clicking on the name above, or the photo.

Friday 9th JulyLeBron James may be moving to play for the Miami Heat next year, but that is not the real news! According to his website, where you can watch the full interview about his move from Cleveland, you can also get answers to the important questions.  Like ‘What’s your favorite Cupcake?’, his answer Red Velvet.

Friday 9th July – Another piece of Friday news!  Hurry into Facebook if you want to send a virtual cupcake!  They have announced on their blog that from the 1st August the virtual gift store will be no more.

If you do decide to send a virtual cupcake, don’t worry it will remain visible on the recipient’s wall even after the store is closed!

Is A Cupcake Reality Show Coming To A TV Near You?

by Party Cupcake Ideas on February 2, 2010

How fun would it be to watch a reality show about running a cupcake business? I enjoy watching Ace of Cakes, but a cupcake reality show? Yum! This article from NBC Washington talks about a blog post made by a local D.C. blogger called DC Fab! She reveals that Georgetown Cupcakes “they will start filming a reality show soon. The show will be an educational, how-to show that will probably showcase the special Georgetown community along with going behind-the-scenes in their bakery.”

How cool! I can’t wait to see a cupcake reality show and wish Georgetown Cupcakes much success. I’m curious what the format for the show is going to be? Will they follow the lives of the bakers and show them delivery cupcakes to weddings, baby showers, and schools? Since they are in D.C., wonder if they would have a White House episode? Making cupcakes for the President and Mrs. Obama?
