Celebrating 100th Day Of School With Cupcakes

100th day of school cupcakes

When I was a kid I don’t remember our class celebrating the 100th day of school. About a month ago I read the newsletter that was sent home with my daughter and knew that I had a fun challenge to make 100 cupcakes. My daughter is in Kindergarten and at her school they have 3 classes of about 30 students each. A perfect way to celebrate and share 100 cupcakes on the 100th day of school. I decided to make mini cupcakes this week as it would be easier to decorate and also not ruin lunch for the little 5 and 6 year olds.

Cutting out fondant numbers

Chopstick and toothpick tools used with number fondant

I baked 100 vanilla mini cupcakes and used the school colors of white and blue for the wrappers. The cupcakes were decorated with chocolate frosting and blue fondant numbers. The most tedious part was cutting out the fondant using the Wilton number stencils. Numbers 4 and 8 gave me a difficult time as they wanted to stick to the metal. I tried rolling out the fondant extra thin, but the numbers still wanted to stick in the same spot. Cutting out all of the fondant numbers took about 2 hours and I was so happy when I finally reached 100. The best tools I could find to help remove the fondant from the stencils were a chopstick and a toothpick.

This morning I delivered the cupcakes to my daughters Kindergarten class and I was happy that every single cupcake survived the drive. The teacher said the kids enjoyed the cupcakes and they had a fun time celebrating the 100th day of school.
