Birthday Cupcakes

A Sweet Party Cupcake Idea

by Sprinkles on November 5, 2010

Many people confide to us that they love baking cupcakes but they just don’t feel creative enough to do some of the more intricate designs that use moulded fondant or gum paste.  So if that is you, then these cupcakes from Death By Cupcake may be your answer.

These cupcakes sound delicious, chocolate peanut butter with a chocolate peanut butter frosting.  The discs are edible hand painted fondant that has been edged with glitter.

The truth is though you can do something similar using an icing pen.  Simply tint your fondant the colors you desire and allow it to dry.  I like to leave my fondant 48 hours to set properly.  Then draw the image on the top of the fondant.  Use a clean paint brush and run a ring of water around the edge then dip the edges of the fondant into the glitter.

And there you have it, glitter edged fondant topped cupcakes, perfect for a party.

Make A+ Kids Birthday Cupcakes

by Abigail on August 12, 2010

Looking at the calendar we see it’s August. This means one thing for families: Back to School season is up us. So many things to plan and prepare for. And we’re about to add one more to think about: those sweet birthday cupcakes you bring to school for your child’s birthday.

It’s a tradition for many children to bring a sweet treat to school to share for their birthday. Or perhaps there is a single celebration for all the children for the birthday month and some of the families bring something. We know if you love cupcakes – you’ll want to bring some sweet and yummy cupcakes to share with your child’s friends that will go straight to the Head of the Class. Here are some A+ ideas for kids birthday cupcakes!

Make birthday cupcakes age appropriate. If you love making fancy cupcakes – some of you may be tempted to use creative ingredients to get these fun effects. Some children may be curious to eat them and others simply wont. Especially with young children, they are less likely to try something they don’t recognize. Try keeping your kids’ birthday cupcakes age appropriate and avoid using ingredients that a child can’t recognize. Let them know what tops the cupcake (sprinkles, cereal, licorice) so they can decide if this is something they will pop into their mouths.

Ask the teacher about food allergies or dietary restrictions. Some children have food allergies or dietary restrictions. It’s important to know about these before bringing any treat to school. The best option is to offer an alternative for the children who can’t eat a cupcake so they can enjoy a treat. Try asking their parents for good alternative treats if you are uncertain – fruit and pretzels may be good choices for many.

Let the birthday child have some choice in what type of cupcakes you make. These are his or her school friends you are baking for. Giving them the alternative to have you bake clown faced cupcakes or flower designs on cupcakes may be special to them. It gives them something meaningful to share.

Try to make all of the cupcakes the same but add some variety. Doesn’t quite make sense…does it? It’s like this: make them all the same size, with all of the same “goodies.” But consider using different flavors and colors to make the cupcakes even more fun. Make ½ the cupcakes chocolate and ½ vanilla. Use several flavors of frosting to decorate. The children will have fun with the variety. It also means if children don’t “like” chocolate or vanilla, they can easily trade with a school friend and still enjoy the birthday celebration.

Say Happy Birthday with Cupcakes

by Abigail on August 10, 2010

We don’t have to tell you that cupcakes have become more popular. Cupcake bakeries are popping up in just about every town. And making cupcakes seems to have gotten easier than ever. There are great cupcake tins, carriers and lots of goodies to put on your cupcakes. So there are many ways to say, “Happy Birthday!” with cupcakes.

Cupcakes are the ideal sweet treat for children or adults. Children love cupcakes because they are fun and cute. Adults also love cupcakes. They take them back to childhood for a brief moment. Many adults also prefer cupcakes to cake or other sweet treats because they are portion controlled, you know exactly how much of a treat you’ll get with a cupcake. This makes cupcakes a very popular choice – whether it is a 6th, 16th or 36th birthday you are celebrating.

Celebrate the birthday party theme with cupcakes. A child’s birthday party can have clown cupcakes or panda cupcakes. An adult’s party can have flower cupcakes or flying saucer cupcakes. The sky is literally the limit at this point, on what you can do to a cupcake. There are so many creative ideas for types of cupcakes. Try making cupcakes that compliment the birthday party theme, even if that’s just in the birthday party’s theme colors it will make the party more fun.

Cupcakes can be easy or more challenging to make. We’ve all seen super fancy cupcakes and more simple designs. Your upcoming birthday party can have very basic cupcakes that are yummy and sweet – or you can have very fancy cupcakes that are just as scrumptious. Some cupcakers love making fancy cupcakes and others want to make ones that just taste good. Whatever your choice – any will be perfect to say Happy Birthday!
