I was fortunate to meet one of my favorite bakers a few weeks ago during her book tour. Bakerella a.k.a Angie Dudley is famous for her Cake Pops that are as much fun to make as they are to eat. After the book signing I was inspired to go home immediately and make some owl cake pops. My daughter was having a fall fest carnival at her school and I wanted to bake cupcakes and treats for the event. They had a cake walk that was so much fun to watch as the kids picked out yummy treats and savored every bite. I wish we had cake walks when I was a kid
The owl cake pops were super fun to make. I was able to find all of the decorations at my local grocery store and Trader Joe’s. I used chocolate covered sunflower seeds and fall leaf candy for decorations. I don’t know if it was the temperature or something else, but I’ve had some issues with my cake pops falling apart during the glazing or dipping process. My solution was to freeze the cake balls prior to dipping them in the hot candy. I think the quick freeze makes them stay on the stick throughout the process.
Now for the fun part. Do you want to win your own copy of Bakerella’s new book? Be sure to subscribe to my blog. Then, leave a comment below and tell me what cake pop you would make first. Giveaway winner will be announced on Nov 19th.

I just subscribed to your blog and I’m looking forward to reading your decorating ideas! It’s hard to choose which cake pop I would make first.. they’re all so cute! I would probably make one of the Christmas cake pops first.
how cute! Great job on those owls! and how neat to meet THE Cake Pop Queen herself, lucky you!
Then I’d like to advance to those cute robot cake pops on the cover, my husband would love those!
I would make…oh, hard to decide…smiley face cake pops to begin with, since I’ve never made one in my life. gotta start simple.
I’d do a Christmas one first, for sure! I plan on hosting a Christmas party and these would be a-dor-a-ble!! Hope I win! : )
I would try the chicks! They will be perfect for my sister-in-law’s baby shower!
I follow your blog via FB! Does that count? I’m not sure how to follow it other than that
And OMG I had no idea about the cuteness of those pops I am heading out to hunt down the book for sure! I am going to make the reindeer and frosty pops for the holidays my kids will LOVE IT!!! Thanks for sharing!
I have never made a cake pop before but if I got that book, I would make the cupcake ones for sure since I love cupcakes so much. Plus that would be really something if I can do that!
I am not sure which I would try first. They are all so cute. I will probably let my son pick which ones he likes best since I am sure he will be helping me
Love the purple owls!
I found an online recipe for cake balls (I just Googled it when I needed it, and I have no clue where I found it!), but that cook suggested freezing for 6 hours prior to dipping, and that’s worked great for me. The only problem is that, as the coating hardens and the frozen cake ball thaws and expands, little bits of cake ball filling pop out the weakest part of the coating (usually a small patch on the bottom or a part that didn’t get thoroughly dipped) and make little streamers or blobs of cake outside of the coating. It’s kind of funny-looking and easily brushed off, but I’d like a solid ball if I could! It’s not as bad when you use the lollipop sticks because that gives a bit of an outlet, I guess.
I’d make the wedding cake pops for the shower I’m throwing for my sister!

I’ve been subscribed via Google Reader for a week or so now, and I love these ideas! I’m getting married in December, and while I’d love to start with the bride and groom cake pops, I’m thinking the cupcake ones (that look like little Hostess cupcakes) would be good for a start.
Thanks!
