With Thanksgiving over for another year, no doubt you are still clearing away the crumbs and returning the house to its normal configuration, so in the spirit of reflection I thought I would share some of my favorite cupcakes from this year!

The first is this set of seven different cupcakes.  These are Spiced Pumpkin Cupcakes with Whipped Orange Vanilla Bean Cream Cheese Icing, which Zoe from Cakes by Zobot has then decorated with carefully created Thanksgiving fondant designs such as the turkey leg, Pilgrim hat, acorns, corn on the cob, pumpkin and autumn flowers.

This next cupcake is simply amazing and was created by Bittle.  It is a cinnamon pumpkin cupcake frosted with caramel cream cheese frosting, dusted and then decorated with stunning fondant acorns and autumn leaves.  This is a gorgeous idea!

Below, I have a turkey cupcake, because, you know it really isn’t Thanksgiving unless there is a turkey somewhere!  This design is, well what can I say, amazing.  The turkey is just brilliant and I love how he is wearing a Pilgrim hat, too cute!  These cakes were created by the clever Kati’s Kupcakes.

With Thanksgiving tomorrow..

I cannot think of an ingredient we could do without less than potatoes!  From white potatoes, to the many different varieties of sweet potato, there are so many options and flavors that can be created using potatoes.

They are versatile from providing a mash with your steak, to a thickener to soup, it is only natural that we use them in our cupcakes too.  Especially as they can prove to be a fantastic natural food colorant in shades of orange and purple!

1. Sweet Potato Cupcakes

My first cupcakes are sweet potato cupcakes with a cinnamon butter cream frosting.  These cupcakes created by ‘From Apples to Zucchini’ are moist and scrumptious using sweet mashed potato and they look divine as well!

2. Sweet Potato Cupcakes with Toasted Marshmallow Frosting

These cupcakes are from Annie’s Eats and are deliciously topped with amazingly perfect brown marshmallow topping.  They look just too good!  These cupcakes also use a mashed and blended sweet potato puree so should be wonderfully moist.

Given it is the Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving, I thought I would run a little idea file for those of you who still haven’t decided on your Thanksgiving cupcakes!

First of all we have Pumpkin Pie Cupcakes from Hoosier Homemade.  You can get instructions on how to make these fantastic cupcakes over at the Hoosier Homemade blog.

Next we have a set of great cupcake toppers made suing three layers of paper.  These would look amazing on top of pumpkin cupcakes with an orange cream cheese frosting, or on top of a double chocolate cupcake.

Another idea is to create your own pumpkins on top of your cupcakes as Rebudesigns has done here.

And finally my last idea for this Thanksgiving has to be the Turkey cupcake.  These are from My Cake School.  This is a cool idea.  The website is packed with loads of information and video tutorials, but in order to get access to all of this information you must subscribe.  It is very cheap only $30 USD a year, and some of the creations the members make are just simply outstanding.

It may be a little early to be starting to plan the swag of cupcakes that you are going to bake over the winter holidays, but we thought we’d get you in the mood with a few cupcakes that celebrate winter!  These are both from the Sweet Things Blog in Canada and are perfect for winter!  I love the little mittens! Turkey Cupcakes created by Sasha from Saucy Sprinkles

The answer is no I am starting to think that way already, but I hadn’t got around to designing my cupcakes yet!  It appears however some people have, and one in particular, and that is Sasha Libby from Saucy Sprinkles.  Of course Thanksgiving in Canada was last weekend!

Now you will probably recognize these cupcakes as the ones from What’s Up Cupcake, but it is worth checking out Sasha’s blog as she goes through and provides a wealth of information and tips on how to make these perfect, but still retain your sanity in doing so!  I found it very amusing and very useful.  Plus I think her turkeys are amazing!

Happy Thanksgiving! I made these chocolate and pumpkin cupcakes last night for our friends and neighbors. I created the leaves using rolled fondant and a leaf shape cookie cutter.
