Cupcakes appear to be here to stay as a way to raise money for charity.  Recently we have seen so many cupcakes for Breast Cancer and cupcakes are always adding smiles to the faces of children in hospital, so it is no surprise that the Elton John Cupcake has been launched to help raise awareness of World Aids Day, which is tomorrow (December 1st).

Unfortunately for many of us, these brightly colored cupcakes may not be available in our local stores given the launch was in London’s Soho district at Cox Cookies and Cakes, but none the less by putting them here, we are raising awareness and you may get a cool idea for that next birthday party cupcake design you have to come up with.

Where would we be without a fashion forward cupcake?  Well that is Magnolia Bakery’s thinking with these snow capped cupcakes created especially for Fashion’s Night Out.

You will be able to get your cupcakes, which are described by Magnolia Bakery’s manager Serena Porter as “Devil’s food cake, meringue icing and stylish black and red wrapping” from their pop-up shop at the Ron Herman store at Fred Segal on Melrose Avenue.

Also there is no guilt to be felt with these cupcakes, with 50 cents from each cupcake ($3.25 each) going to City of Hope.

The students at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology came together to help the animals for the annual SPCA Cupcake Day this August. According to Stuff.co.nz, 36 students will bake 400 cupcakes for Cupcake Day on August 30th. Their sweet cupcakes will benefit the Nelson SPCA.

Cupcakes shown by the students featured cute animals such as cats, frogs, pigs, dogs and ducks – something for every animal and cupcake lover! It’s easy to see the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology students are quite talented at making cupcakes and that they care a great deal about animals. We hope their sweet and yummy cupcakes go a long way to help the Nelson SPCA.

The cupcake ingredients were donated by Bidvest Foodservice Nelson so the students could make 400 cupcakes.

Schools, businesses and individuals can still sign up to be a part of Cupcake Day for the SPCA. Visit them at spcacupcakeday.co.nz and register to join in on the fun and help the animals!

Try some of our helpful tips to make successful Cupcake Day cupcakes:

Baking for charity is a bit different than baking for friends. Often you want to appeal to a wider audience than just close friends and family. Think of popular flavors and topics for your cupcakes – just as the students above are making adorable animal themed cupcakes that are sure to be a winner!

Consider making two different kinds of cupcakes. Now who doesn’t like to have a choice? We all do! Think about making both vanilla and chocolate cupcakes or two other types of varieties of cupcakes. This makes it easy to appeal to many cupcake lovers who might not find vanilla or chocolate as their favorite flavor – but would pick the other one easily.

Find a great cupcake carryall as you bring your cupcakes around. Every cupcake lover knows that cupcakes are simply adorable. You want your cupcakes to stay looking so cute as you are asking people to donate to your cause for the gift of a thank you cupcake. Make your cupcakes as appealing with a great easy to tote cupcake carryall so they don’t stick together or tumble to the floor.

Remember your cupcake audience as you bake. Before you make cupcakes – think of where and to who you are bringing them to? What type of cupcakes would they find tempting? If you are around youths they may like different cupcakes than adults. Adults often like more sophisticated flavors. Try asking your friends, family and coworkers about favorite flavors or for preferred cupcakes before Cupcake Day so you can be sure to please everyone – to help the animals!

July was a very sweet month in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Cupcakes By Carousel was selling cupcakes to benefit the United Way of New Jersey. Patch.com for the local community reported that by July 30th the bakery had sold 100 cupcakes, raising $100 for the charity.

Carousel By Cupcakes, a family business, sold two types of cupcakes to benefit the United Way of New Jersey. Cupcakes with white icing or cupcakes with blue icing. The cupcakes helped to benefit the many programs through the United Way of New Jersey, including assistance for military families, affordable housing, work assistance and other social service programs for the community.

What a sweet way to help one’s community and to make a difference – by offering yummy cupcakes for charity. One dollar gets you a scrumptious cupcake and you know you are making a difference in your community too!

Carousel By Cupcakes plans on doing more sweet things for their community. A cupcake for the fall to benefit pediatric cancer is planned. What a wonderful bakery – and how sweet they are to those in need in their community. And what great cupcakes!

Charity cupcakes have become quite popular. A great way to support a cause – and certainly popular with people. After all…who can resist a sweet cupcake and the urge to help their community too? Here are some of our tips to make a great charity cupcake:

Choose your charity and the date for the cupcake drive. Just as Carousel by Cupcakes chose the month of July, you need to have a certain time frame to do your cupcake drive. Whether it is a day, a week, two weeks or a month – any time frame can be “perfect” as long as it is the best for you.

Let the community know about your cupcake drive. Tell them which charity it supports, what type of cupcakes are available and how much they are. You can also tell them why you chose this charity.

Consider giving customers a choice of cupcakes. Just as Carousel By Cupcakes did 2 different cupcakes – they look adorable and give customers a bit of an option of which cupcake to choose. Two cupcakes also look pretty if they buy a dozen to give as a gift for someone.

“Down under” in Australia, the RSPCA is getting ready for an exciting event…Cupcake Day! Monday, August 16th is Cupcake Day and registered Cupcake Cooks through the charity will be at area schools, places of work and anywhere people gather to gobble yummy cupcakes to trade their sweet treats for a donation to the RSPCA. It costs $37 million to keep the RSCPA up and running every year and Cupcake Day is a way people can help their favorite charity that helps dogs, cats and other animals.

Baking for a charity event can be lots of fun. Try our cupcake baking tips to really win over a crowd:

Know your audience. If you are going to a school, bake cupcakes that appeal to little kids. If you are going to a workplace, a more sophisticated cupcake or even mini cupcakes (ideal for weight watchers) could be a big hit. If you are baking for a group of family or friends, try asking them what some of their favorite flavors or cupcake add-ins are. Putting some special touches on those cupcakes is thoughtful and a great way to say “Thank You!” for their donation.

Consider doing a cupcake themed to the RSPCA Cupcake Day. This is an animal charity so an animal theme cupcake could be lots of fun to do. Try cats, dogs, birds or even turtles! We’ve seen cute bunny cupcakes out there too – there are many animal themed cupcakes you can make.

If you are trying out a new recipe for Cupcake Day, consider doing a trial run. Test out your recipe and cupcakes beforehand. This gives you confidence that you will make beautiful cupcakes and also helps you increase your speed for Cupcake Day. You also may learn some things that can help you make better (or cuter!) cupcakes for the actual day. Give the trial cupcakes to friends and family, especially to remind them of the upcoming Cupcake Day by the RSPCA!

These Las Vegas poker chip cupcakes will be a huge hit if you are having a Las Vegas themed party or casino night fundraiser. Roll out and cut fondant using a round cookie cutter. Use edible food markers for coloring poker chips. You can also top cupcakes with poker chip foil wrapped chocolate coins. I’ve seen these chocolate coins at stores like Michael’s and Cost Plus.
