New Years Cupcakes

by Sprinkles on December 28, 2010

Do you make cupcakes for New Years?  If so and you want some ideas, then Hoosier Homemade is the place to go, I was checking out the site today and she has quite a few different options, but my favorite are definitely these cupcakes in a glass!  They look so festive and would be awesome with a little cocktail umbrella lodged in top!

We are still determining what to do this new years, but if I happen to bake, I am going to do a trifle cupcake with cocktail umbrellas!  What are you doing for New Years? and are you Baking?

Hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas and Boxing Day and that if you visited the sales you didn’t get trampled! ;)  On the news front there is not much happening, cupcake controversy seems to have gone on holiday for the week, and why not!  If you cannot take Christmas off, what day can you?  There is still vibrations about that Duncan Hines advert and lots of business promoting their wares, sales, and new flavors, but… after a lot of scrounging I did rustle up a these two news stories for the day!

Wednesday 22nd December 2010 – It seems Kelly Osbourne is dragging Miley Cyrus down, as the two star together in the upcoming movie ‘So Undercover’ reports Splash News Online.  But it is not too dark, in fact it is bright, colorful and frosted!

Wednesday 22nd December 2010 – First it was cupcakes verses cakes, then muffins, then macaroons challenged the cupcake, as are the pies, so what is next?  Could it possibly be… pancakes?  Tell me what you think?  Do you fancy a red velvet pancake with cream cheese syrup? Or do you prefer yours choc chip?  Apparently the gamble is paying off, but maybe only in Vegas? Report is from the Las Vegas Review Journal, and if you are out that way this holidays why not stop in at the Liberty Salonga and try them for yourself.

Got Left Over Cupcakes?

by Sprinkles on December 26, 2010

With Christmas day past, you may today start thinking about how you will work your way through all the left over food that you have from Christmas day!  Already I have seen ideas in our local morning newspaper and another one on morning television this morning.  But these are always dealing with the savory items, such as your left over turkey, potatoes, vegetables, ham and for the Aussies, the left over prawns.

This got me thinking about the left over cupcake.  What do you do with those?  Though maybe no-one else has this problem?

Anyway for those of you, who like me have a stack of left over cupcakes, here is what you can do;

  • Cake Pops – These are awesome, fun and make a great boxing day activity with the kids.  If your left over cupcakes are frosted you will need to take off the cupcake wrapper and using a sharp knife cut the top of the cupcake off.  Set your kids to crumbling the remaining cake.  Then the sky is your limit!
  • Cake Trifle - Depending on the flavor of your cupcakes, you can also make a cupcake trifle, again you will need to remove the papers and cut off the frosting, then using any of that left over cream, those left over berries and of course plenty of your chosen alcohol, Kahlua, Baileys or Tia Maria.  Alternatively you could use your left over brandy custard!
  • IceCream Bowls – Take your cupcake and cut the frosted top off, use a spoon and scoop the center out of your cupcake, then after your kids eat their greens, reward them with a cupcake cup filled with a big scoop of icecream!  Top with whatever they love!
  • Chocolate CheeseCake – Again chop your frosted top off and blend the cupcakes, then use the crumbs to make your own chocolate (if you have chocolate cupcakes) crumb base for your next cheesecake.  Create as you would a normal cheesecake, it will be a lovely chocolate crust they were not expecting!
  • Create an Upside Down Cupcake Tower – Then just top with chocolate, m&ms, cream, ice cream, and anything else you have on hand as per the Ayan n’ Mama blog! Picture shown here.
  • Make Friends with your Neighbors - After all, who can resist cupcakes?

Of course, you can just eat them yourself!  :)
