As we cling to the last of the summer sun, before preparing for fall, we wanted to bring you, before it is too late our 50 favorite summer cupcake blog posts! So get ready to start baking and celebrating the blue skies and warm weather before it disappears for another year!
So without further delay here is part 1 of our super sunny summer cupcake feature, and if you can’t find what you are looking for here, check back next Saturday afternoon to see our second installment!
50 Super Summer Cupcake Ideas – Part 1
1.Rose and lavender summer garden cupcakes
These are apparently both yummy and summery, and they are very beautiful. The cupcakes are based on a simple sponge recipe with some additions. UK Handmade shows you step by step how to make the lemonbalm and rose cupcakes and the lavender cupcakes including recipes and exactly how she made them look so gorgeous!
2. Summer flip flops and sand buckets
The Cupcake Blog is always full of great ideas, and they don’t let us down with their summer collection! Here you can see Karen M Sweetmother 1’s take on summer mini cupcakes, with bright blue frosting and cupcakes that contain flip flops, spade and sand bucket and of course in the centre a beautiful summer sun! As you know, it is just not summer without the sunshine!
3. Pineapple Upside Down Cupcake Cone
How can you not be intrigued by the name of this cupcake! At the Cupcake Lab, they created this ice cream cupcake as their entry in the 2010 Ice Cream Cupcake Roundup. It is very summery, but I cannot help wanting to draw a clown face onto the front of the ice cream (which could be difficult!).
4. Lots of summer cupcake ideas
At Cake Central they have a bunch of different summer cake ideas, including a butterfly cupcake, a whimsical dragonfly cupcake, a 4th of July cupcake and cupcakes for Wimbledon. There is an idea here, to suit almost everyone.
5. Fondant for summer
Choose fondant this summer, is the word over at Betty Crocker’s Blog. Andia recommends it strongly for decorating cupcakes in the summer as it will not melt like a chocolate glaze will and isn’t as messy and soft as buttercream frosting. So when considering an outdoor summer party, perhaps give Andia’s step-by-step fondant a go.
6. A blueberry summer
At the Boastful Baker Blog they have blended summer blueberries with lemons to make scrummy looking cupcakes. Scroll down the page and you will also find the recipes for the lemon cakes and for the blueberry buttercream frosting. What more could you really ask for?
7. Ideas galore
If you have a summer celebration in mind then the best place to go is the summer cupcakes post on the Celebrations blog. They have everything for you from fish in the sea cupcakes, to bright butterfly cupcakes, flip flop beach cupcakes and layered flower cupcakes to tempt your fancy. Not only will you feel inspired for ideas, but you will also be provided with the tips and hints to allow you to recreate the decorations.
8. Summer berry cupcakes
Not only does the I Heart Cuppy Cake Blog have a great recipe for a different take on the summer berry cupcake, but . These cupcakes are creatively named ‘Straw-Berried Treasure Cakes’ and within the centre have a hidden strawberry in the centre! I love the idea and may have to add it to my try soon pile!
9. Orange and yellow flower cupcakes
Although there is no recipe for the summery yellow flower cupcake featured atop of a vanilla cupcake on the Creative Cupcake Recipe site, it wouldn’t be hard to recreate using some icing cutters and fondant. That said the Creative Cupcake Recipes website is well worth checking out because there are a number of other cupcake recipes featured including Pina Colada Cupcakes, Pineapple Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting, Lemon Raspberry Cupcakes, Lemon Ricotta Cupcakes with Blackberry Frosting, Lemon Lime Cupcakes and Iced Tea Cupcakes. Mmmm I am drooling just thinking about them!
10. We all scream for ice cream!
Whether as a cupcake or as an ice cream who can really resist? So combine the two and surely it is a match made in heaven. Over at Hoosier Homemade they do this with ice cream cones and snow cones, which are both are secretly cupcakes! They are super simple to make and the blog features a step by step video, personally I would never have thought to cook the cupcake in an ice cream cone!
11. Cocktail anyone?
The Party Bluprint Blog has the perfect thing for this summer, margarita cupcakes. The most popular American cocktail is now also a tasty cupcake, so you can quite literally have your cocktail and eat it too. Full recipe for these light and beautiful cupcakes is available on the blog.
12. Strawberry Pocky cupcakes
Okay, we admit this is a rarity to feature an Asian Food Grocer on our cupcake blog, but when they produce a cupcake and it looks this fun, we had to include them. Pocky is a favorite Japanese snack, which you can get from your local Asian Grocer. The one you want is the Original Strawberry Pocky! However you can always play with the other varieties including Strawberry Pocky Bits or Giant Strawberry Pocky.
13. Orange Creamsicle cupcakes
Creamsicles and summer go hand in hand, but at Grin and Bake It blog they have turned the Creamsicle into a cupcake and they look amazing. There is a full recipe on the blog, and lots of advice on how to make this summery cupcake.
14. Root beer float cupcakes
At Smitten Kitchen you are taken on the journey to create the perfect root beer float cupcakes. From decisions over foam or cream topping to the final creation with ice cream and cherry these cupcakes take shape in front of your eyes. What better way to top off a late summer BBQ, and given that Smitten Kitchen provide the recipe there is nothing to prevent you from getting started!
15. In love with Sundays, or should that be Sundaes?
Aunt Tiffy’s Cupcake blog is great fun, and not so long ago she made yummy vanilla cupcakes filled with milk chocolate ganache with vanilla buttercream, sprinkles and milk chocolate ganache drizzle. To finish them off, she topped them with fresh Picota cherries to make the perfect summer sundae.
16. Summer popcorn cupcakes
I am not sure if you have outdoor movies in the summer, but in Australia it is so popular to visit the moonlight cinema. All the latest movies are shown and you sit on the grass with your white wine and popcorn. Thanks now to American Cupcake in London, we can take our popcorn cupcakes too for desert! These are cream filled chocolate cupcakes.
17. Watermelon cupcakes
There is little argument that watermelon has to be the number one summer fruit of all time, being so juicy and refreshing. Whimsical Cookery has therefore bought us vanilla watermelon themed cupcakes. They are stunning, in a combination of pink and green vanilla cake and topped with white frosting complete with black decorating gel seeds!
18. Summer simplicity
Want a beautiful all white summer cupcake, well Le Cupcake has just that, a gorgeous mini vanilla cupcake with a smooth domed top. To add a special touch they have added a little light pink summer flower to set it off perfectly.
19. Amazing strawberry cupcakes
Fancy a strawberry cardamom Cupcake with Vanilla Yoghurt Frosting? If you do, then head over to Holy Sweet’s Blog for her free o’ summer cupcake recipe. Although Holy Sweet is Swedish, this recipe is in English. These light and fruity cupcakes would make the perfect sweet ending to your next summer BBQ.
20. Summer flowers
Sometimes the cakes you create do not have to feature amazing fondant sculptured creatures to be eye catching and amazing. At Cupcake Me they show us how adding colour can make a brilliant statement all on its own. For example the cupcake batches are in red, yellow or green wrappers, with white frosting and topped with a matching red, yellow or green flower.
21. Bright color and beautiful shoes
What could say ‘hey summer’ more than bright sunshine yellow, electric blue and violet cupcakes. Bella Cupcakes has done just that with these bright inspirational cupcakes. Throw in a few little pink flowers and add some fantastically creative fondant high heel shoes, and you have summer wrapped up for any girl!
22. It’s choppy out there
52 Cupcakes went summer in a big way, picking a theme of fishing and canoeing for her brother’s birthday. The cakes are chocolate, and the frosting is either blue or green, chopped up to create waves. On top she has added little canoes with people in them or fishermen. To add fun and interest (not that they needed it) she has also buried inside some of the cupcakes pretzel goldfish!
23. Spring colors for summer
At Cake Journal they have converted the spring themes into summer with a set of beautiful cupcakes. Two different towns, pale blue and apple green are decorated with butterflies or ladybugs and flowers respectively.
24. Hello Cupcake
Before ‘What’s Up Cupcake?’ there was the original and on NBC’s today show back in 2008 they ran through a huge display of the cakes from the book ‘Hello Cupcake’ including all their summer ideas. These include a lobster, chicken drumsticks, ants stealing food and more! You can see the video on their Hello Cupcake blog.
25. Summer colors for a cupcake wedding
If you are getting married in the summer, choosing a cupcake color palate that reflects the season is a great idea. On the Crumbs and Doilies Cupcake blog they did just that, creating a lovely tower of big and little cupcakes in colours of white, lilac and light green.
Don’t forget, check back next Saturday for more Sunshine Cupcakes for summer.
